About the Redland Yurara Youth Art Awards (YYAA)
This artistic event is to encourage our youth in the Redlands, to give them a sense of pride, achievement and recognition of their artistic gift among their peers, local artists and the public.
Now in its 8th year the Redlands Yurara Art Society held the 2020 Yurara Youth Art Awards with an Exhibition at the Yurara Art Gallery over 2 weekends from Saturday 17 October till Sunday 25 October 2020. Due to Covid restrictions this year’s Opening Night for family, friends and the public was held online on Friday 16th October 2020.
A major prize of $1000 along with prizes and certificates for First Prize, Highly Commended and Encouragement Awards for each category – drawing, painting, and miscellaneous (digital, sculpture, printmaking, photography etc) was awarded on the night.
Yurara Art Society also offers a FREE six-month mentorship program to all Youth Art Awards entrants. Mentoring sessions are held at the Redland Yurara Gallery Studio at Thornlands 11am – 4pm on Sundays. Attendance is on a casual basis to accommodate students’ study and family commitments.
Many of our young artists that have utilized the program have received great benefit from the tutoring and mentoring sessions with our professional artists and tutors.
Please contact youthart@redlandyurara.com.au to register your interest in these FREE Online YYAA Mentorship Group Sessions.
Currently most of the tuition is given by Robin Wilson (Nat Dip Design; UK Dip Teaching-London) a professional artist and Yurara tutor who holds a current blue card.
At the Mentoring sessions any medium can be used – pencils, charcoal, pastel, inks, line and wash, watercolours, acrylics and oils. Robin aims to guide the young artists to further their arts practice in whatever medium or style they choose.
Each entrant participating in the Yurara Youth Art Awards (YYAA) also receives FREE membership to the Yurara Art Society for one year until the following year’s YYAA Awards.
Yurara Art Society membership entitles entrants to a monthly emailed newsletter detailing Yurara activities, participation in monthly rotating theme exhibitions which gives them exhibition experience, discounted fees to attend workshops and entitles them to attend free members group art sessions in their study or work breaks.
To renew membership a discounted membership fee of $20 per year for under 21 yr-olds or a full membership fee applies in subsequent years if they do not enter subsequent years’ YYAA competitions.
2020 YYAA entrants keep a hold of your membership card which was given to you when you delivered your YYAA artworks to the gallery for this year’s competition.
Entry forms for 2021 Yurara Youth Art Awards will be available in April 2021.
